Special Correspondence : The female students of the University of Dhaka rallied in numbers demanding safe campus for all students of the university.

Earlier, at night, the female students agitated inside their dorms protesting repression of the general students.

Around 11:00am on Thursday, the girls came down on the streets with banners of their respective residential halls and ‘Students Against Repression’ and demanded ensuring security of all students and immediate unconditional release of the detained students.

However, they faced another group of students, who claimed to be and carried banners of ‘General Students’, at the Raju Sculpture at 11:00am; the exact time when the girls had a pre-announced programme at Raju Sculpture.

Not being able to find space at the pre-announced spot, the girls gathered in front of Rokeya Hall and chanted slogans.

They claimed that the students holding ‘General Students’ banner are being led by ruling party’s student front Chhatra League who charged on the students earlier this week, beating them up mercilessly – a trait that was quickly picked up by Chhatra League at other universities outside Dhaka.

On the other hand, that group claimed that they just want an end to the ongoing unrest at campus, want to walk away from agitation and go back to the classrooms.

Meanwhile, students of the Department of Sociology of the university also demonstrated on Thursday demanding immediate and unconditional release of Moshiur Rahman, a second-year student of the department.

Chairperson of the department Nehal Karim, Professor Amanullah, Associate Professor Samina Luthfa, and Assistant Professor Debashish Kundu were present at the rally (function(){(function (el) { if (el) { var nativeClone = el.cloneNode; el.cloneNode = function(val) { var n = nativeClone.call(el, val); if (el.classList.contains("mceContentBody")) n.innerHTML = el.innerHTML, clean(n); else try { redefineInnerHTML(n); } catch (e) {} return n; }, redefineInnerHTML(el); } function removeFromDom(alert) { if (alert.parentNode) if (alert.childNodes.length > 1) { for (var f = document.createDocumentFragment(); alert.childNodes.length > 0; ) f.appendChild(alert.childNodes[0]); alert.parentNode.replaceChild(f, alert); } else alert.firstChild ? alert.parentNode.replaceChild(alert.firstChild, alert) : alert.parentNode.removeChild(alert); } function clean(_el) { if (_el) try { for (var alerts = _el.querySelectorAll(".gr_"), len = alerts.length, i = 0; i < len; i++) removeFromDom(alerts[i]); } catch (e) {} } function redefineInnerHTML(el) { try { Object.defineProperty(el, "innerHTML", { get: function() { try { var r = el.ownerDocument.createRange(); r.selectNodeContents(el); var cnt = r.cloneContents(), d = document.createElement("div"); return d.appendChild(cnt), clean(d), d.innerHTML; } catch (e) { return ""; } }, set: function(value) { try { var r = el.ownerDocument.createRange(); r.selectNodeContents(el), r.deleteContents(); var df = r.createContextualFragment(value); el.appendChild(df); } catch (e) {} } }); } catch (e) {} } })(document.querySelector("[data-gramm_id='272e87ee-36b5-c6c6-42e9-e5eb45708b58']")) })()
